I've found a great substitute for running in Hawaii, running on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. The ship has two decks that are suitable for running however there are signs posted that discourage such activity. Sometimes it is sooo hard to be obedient ;)
The upper deck was smaller and there were a lot of walkers on it so I chose to run on the lower deck. It made a complete loop around the ship, unless it was too windy and rainy and then the upper portion was closed. There were also two sets of stairs so that added to the workout. Good times!
